Contagious Attitude

In the January 2008 edition of Readers Digest (page 51) there is an article titled, King of Vacations - Butch Stewart figured he’d work harder and smarter than anyone else.  It paid off big.  (Not online yet.)

Mr. Stewart worked hard at making money and a few years back was fortunate enough to start the Sandals resorts empire, which extends throughout the Caribbean.  There are 18 Sandals resorts total. There are a few things he says in the article that I’d like to share about how to be an effective leader.

“Keep your feet on the ground.  Think smart.  Pay attention.  Make sure that the customer is never disappointed.  And do the same for your staff.  Nothing happens by itself.  Listen to people, and don’t be afraid to roll the dice.  I do that every day.  If you don’t believe me, come to Sandals and look for me.”
He said his there is no tough part to his job.  It’s because he loves what he does.  Do your employees feel the same way?
When asked what he would do differently, he says, “I don’t think there’s anything different to do because everything is a learning curve.  Yes, we made mistakes in the past, but we pay the price and we fixed it.”
His attitude about his failures creates the opportunity for his success.  If we are honest with ourselves we all make mistakes every day.  Yet if correct the mistakes and learn from the experience then we can still have a great time in life while being financially successful.

Have a great day!
